A Miserable Night...

So not to try to top Missy's blog about Apsen and the pencil sharpener, but last night after working out, I came home to find Dave holding an icepack on Abby's head and blood everywhere. It turns out she has been testing out her gymnastics out on the couch downstairs and her Star wars somersault did not quite go according to plan, leaving her cutting her eyebrow open on the coffee table and bruising her nose (she was lucky not to break it). So after careful consideration as to what to do, we opted to take her to the hospital to reduce the scarring seeing as the last time she cut her leg open and we took her to the doctors he said "a butterfly bandaid is fine because the wound is on her leg but if the wound was on her face she should be getting a stitch to reduce the scarring".

So off we go to the hospital. Now, Abby is fine in spirit and certainly not concussed but the blood is still seeping from her wound. After doing all the necessary paperwork/insurance discussion at the hospital whilst Abby is still dripping blood, we are doomed for a miserable 2 hour wait amongst children and adults alike throwing up, groaning and looking deathly pale around us. We got in a constant battle with our kids to stop licking the seats and putting their fingers in mouth!
We finally hear her name called and it is like we have just won the lottery, although we still know we are going to have to wait in the next room for a doctor. Admittedly, the doctor was very nice to Abby when he came in, but by this time his humor was lost on me as I just kept thinking "do you know how long we have had to wait" and "if I were getting paid as much as you were, I would be calling every little girl 'as cute as a button' and 'adorable' too. Only to find he glues her wound back together (and half the creases above her eye) with dermabond. Now I have liquid seal at home which would have done just a good a job, it might have stung a little when initially applied, but that sting is short lived in comparison to the sting of waiting 2 hours amongst some of the sickest people in Augusta County, high medical expenses, and a feeling of of being in an overpaid cattle market.

Needless to say when I asked the doctor if liquid seal would have done the job at home, his answer was "Hmmm, I don't know that product, it might have." Skechy answer to say the least... but it does him no good to promote over the counter medications, when we can pay $100 for his drug companies' Dermabond glue, does it?

We really have been lucky with no ER visits with the kids (knock on Wood or is it touch wood where you are from?) I did go with my miscarriage, but we have connections, we know one of the main ER doctors--so I think that helped move our name up the list. I just wish people realized the ER is for "Emergencies"--one time we were in there(for Jarrett when he broke his collar bone) and I heard the nurse ask this guy "How long has your arm been hurting?" and he responded "Two weeks"---I could not help but think THEN WHY DID YOU NOT JUST GO TO A FAMILY DR OR SPECIALIST--people like that clog up the ER!! So did you yell at Dave for Abby being hurt, something like this "What happened?!" in a accusing voice, like he should have been watching better. . .that would have been my response:)

Yeah, I have been at the ER with Colby, Dallin, and Angela (different trips of course). What got me the maddest was I was sitting there, Colby had blood soaking through gauze pads after gauze pads, and who's taking up the time (we were there for a whopping 4 hours total) People who because they ate chips and chocolate all day plus chain smoked had troubles breathing.

Sounds really judgmental, I know, but when I told my friend this, she said her dad was a firefighter and they had to remove an obese man from his bed cuz he couldn't walk and he felt bad until he went to his room and saw the floor covered in chocolate wrappers etc.

Hmmm, as I'm writing this, I'm made to remember that I have eaten almost all of my kids' easter candy. I better stop before I eat my words (no pun intended.)

But really, people do need to take better care of themselves. I think insurance rates should be lower for people who are active, don't smoke, etc.

I think I'm going to get into big trouble for this post. Oh well. I'm still cute and cuddly.

I didn't yell at Dave... funnily enough it never crossed my mind. I know how rambunctious my two can be when playing together sometimes, so it could have happened at any time, besides when she cut her leg open, we were both there. She was in her room playing quietly by herself and fell on the knubby closure part of her littlest pet shop, a kid safe toy! Everytime the kids moaned last night about being bored though, we did bore home the fact that they have to play more sensibly... It never seems to be Sam though, he seems like a more "careful" kid if there is such a thing... Abby on the other hand acts before she thinks. Yesterday I caught her coloring AGAIN on my walls downstairs...Sam grassed her up immediately and of course she was screaming and crying as she knew she had been caught, but thats what I mean, she acts before she thinks...

Dallin and Abby could never get married I think. Any time there's an injury in our home, Dallin is ALWAYS involved SOMEHOW!

It was fun seeing you out and about! :)
